Soy Nog Latte: 3 Ways - Flora Foodie

Soy Nog Latte: 3 Ways

Time for my first cozy winter drink!  Yes!  For a wonderful winter treat, curl up at the end of the day with a steaming hot mug of this.  Or make this to kick off a workday when you’re less than motivated to leave the comfort of home and trudge off to work.  Though I don’t recommend you make the spiked variety before work …

Traditional Soy Nog Latte:
serves 1
3/4 C soy nog
1 or 2 shots espresso
1/8 t nutmeg
1/8 t cinnamon
1 t maple syrup

A traditional soy nog latte is first!  A classic, lightly spiced, creamy drink with a kick of caffeine.  Perfect.

To make: Steam soy milk, mix everything else together!  Pretty easy, eh?

Chai Soy Nog Latte:
serves 1
3/4 C soy nog
1 or 2 shots espresso
1/4 t chai spice mixture
nutmeg to taste
1 t maple syrup

The first variety sounds really weird.  I know.  I can’t believe I ever tried it in the first place, but I first had a chai egg nog latte at Starbucks a few years ago, and LOVED it.  It doesn’t sound as weird when you think about it like this:  egg/soy nog tastes wonderful with all kinds of cinnamon and nutmeg swirled into it.  Maybe even cloves and allspice too!  Chai is just an even spicier version, with some added ginger.  Sound a little less scary now?  I hope some of you will try it even if you’re not sure!  If you like soy nog and chai, I think you’ll like them together.

To make: same as above.  I decided my chai mixture should have extra nutmeg to go especially well with the soy nog flavor, so I added more nutmeg.  Give it a taste and you decide for yourself!

Spiked Soy Nog Latte:
serves 1
3/4 C soy nog
1 or 2 shots espresso (probably want decaf for this one!)
1/8 t nutmeg
1/8 t cinnamon
1 oz kahlua (or amaretto or frangelico) (note: these are all sweet, so you probably don’t need the maple syrup)

Now for the party version!  Or the rough day version.  Your call.

Bonus version:  leave the espresso out of any of these for a steamer.  Yum.

A few other wintry drink ideas:

Holiday Tea.  My favorite winter drink.  These are all great – the Sugar Cookie variety with a squirt of agave or maple syrup makes for a wonderful and surprisingly satisfying dessert for a day when you probably shouldn’t have dessert.

Spiced & Spiked Cardamom Tea. This guy was one of my first posts, and I still highly recommend this fantastic drink.

Plus here are a couple recipes from this fall – just because they’re classic fall flavors doesn’t mean you should stop making them come winter!

Hot Mulled Fresh Pressed Apple Cider.

Pumpkin Coconut Chai Steamer.  You can probably tell I like a warm spiced cinnamon-y drink by now!  I am all about pumpkin for October and November, and then forget about it the rest of the year.  I am not letting that happen this time . . . drinking this all winter long 🙂

I just made this with my nespresso machine and its milk frother (to heat up the ‘nog)–so delish! I love the touch of maple to sweeten a little. 🙂
