vacation tidbits | I could go on and on, but will try to keep it short-ish (see longer captions than usual for more details!) The short version: vacation was much-needed and amazing. The longer version: we went to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico and stayed at a great all-inclusive resort. Not worrying about meals or booze (or safety) was just what we needed and really relaxing. I could NOT unwind at first (long post about thoughts on that coming this week), but finally gave in to the vacay style, had a load of pina coladas, and relaxed on the beach. We booked an excursion and did a day long tour that took us kayaking, zip-lining, to a Mayan shaman ceremony, rappelling into a sacred pool in a cave, having a lovely authentic Mayan meal, and then to visit the tallest Mayan pyramid and surrounding ruins (Cobá.) We made friends and just had an absolute blast. Probably the best day there. We staggered lazy beach days with excursions (not really planned) and wound up going on another excursion a couple days later to see a settlement of Mayan ruins and snorkel with sea turtles along the coral reef (second longest in the world, right behind the Great Barrier Reef! I had no idea!) The rest of the time was pretty much spent sitting by a pool or the beach and soaking up the sun. Oh yeah, and eating. I gorged on the all-you-can-eat food (another longer post with thoughts on that coming next week.) We only briefly checked out the downtown area, and looked around a few other resorts. It was the perfect combo of super active and relaxing. I slept a lot (and pretty damn well) all week long. Now back to the real world, but man am I feeling reenergized and exhilarated!
