I have a weird hatred of putting on moisturizer. Like, full body moisturizer. I can manage to take care of my face, but that’s about it…
I’m not sure exactly when or how this became such an annoying task to me. Back in the day, I was a moisturize-every-night kind of gal. Then somewhere along the way, I just could NOT make myself put some damn lotion on my damn skin!
For the most part it’s okay, but in the winter my legs get scaly as hell… and then suddenly, they’re scaly this summer too!
Maybe it’s from total lack of moisturizer for so long now???
So I decided to try a little DIY experiment and make some shower moisturizing spray. It works SO WELL. It takes a fraction of the time of smoothing on lotion, is super easy, and really moisturizes my dry skin well.
The best part is it’s CHEAP and ALL NATURAL! Just a few oils!
Rose-Scented DIY Moisturizing Shower Spray
30 drops rose essential oil (*you can use whatever oil(s) you like best!)
2 T rosehip oil
2 T vitamin E oil
1/2 C sweet almond oil*
Fill a dark glass spray bottle with oils and fill to top with distilled water.
Shake before each use to combine the oils with the water.
*A note on the carrier oils. You can replace the sweet almond oil with any “carrier” oil – jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil would work really well. I prefer sweet almond oil because I love the super subtle scent and I love how it feels. But MOSTLY you can get it for the lowest price if you’re lucky enough to find a health food store that sells it in bulk. For locals: the Sacramento Co-Op sells it. You buy a cheap bottle, fill it with oil out of a large tub, and pay by how much you purchase. It’s by far the cheapest way to find carrier oils. Check out your closest Whole Foods, some of their beauty departments have started doing this. I totally recommend it.
When you turn shower water off (and wring out your hair so it doesn’t keep dripping and rinse off all your moisturizer), lightly spray yourself all over with moisturizing shower spray. Using your hands, quickly “rub in” spray. It just takes a quick wipe down each arm, leg, and your torso so you make sure the oil is being absorbed. Bonus points, you’ll get a head start drying off by knocking off excess water.
That’s it, it’s so easy!
***SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE: since you are spraying OILS in your shower, make sure you don’t leave your shower too slick!!! If you just use a light spray and don’t overdo it, that should be plenty to moisturize you and keep your shower safe. But if it feels slippery, wipe it down quickly with a terrycloth or microfiber towel and it cleans right up!
