Hellooooo, loves! Who had a good weekend? What did you do?
I had a fantastic weekend and thought it was time to share another From the Weekend post!
Somehow I totally failed to take pictures Friday, but we went out for a friend’s birthday and had a blast. I had a FAN-TAS-TIC version of a Moscow mule that I will be blogging as soon as I can go hunt down some super special vodka…
But loads of photos start Saturday with wine tasting!
I know I promised Instagrammed monastery pictures last weekend and didn’t follow through… we rescheduled and made it this weekend! But I still didn’t Instagram because I have a new phone (and not an iPhone….!!!! Because I REFUSE to pay $600+ for a phone now that you can’t get contract renewal discounts anymore. LAME.) and I still don’t know how to use it super well. So Instagramming is not the quick and easy process it should be. 😉 I still can’t decide if I like my new phone bc it’s glitchy as hell. Booooo. But I’m weirdly adapting to the droid part of it pretty quickly and I’m thinking even if I return this phone I’m switching away from iPhones (WHAT?!) Anyway. But until I figure out what I’m doing in phone-land, my Instagram game is suffering. The blasphemy.
Back to the good stuff. Saturday started with a drive up to a fascinating monastery about an hour and a half a way from us. I don’t want to butcher its history for those of you who care or bore those of you who don’t care, so read about its history here. The short version is: there is a legit monastery, where the monks produce and sell wine, in part to fund continuing to build an incredible chapter house (a gorgeous building) that William Hearst bought in Spain and shipped to California in pieces. You can enjoy a wine tasting (of amazing wine – we loved so many of them!) poured by monks and then tour a bit of the property.
After the monastery, we headed back to Chico for lunch at Sierra Nevada. Their food is always SO GOOD. Oh my word.
Just to make sure we got enough alcohol in on Saturday (heh), we went to Track 7 (an awesome local brewery) because it’s Sacramento BEER WEEK and I just HAD to participate in what immediately became my favorite Beer Week event last year: Girl Scout cookie and beer pairings….
… they were SO FREAKING GOOD. S’mores cookies and a cherry stout??
Rounded out the crazy fun and long day with board games and watched the weirdest but most hysterical YouTube channel. I’m really happy to live in an era when completely crazy people can be wildly successful doing random shit on the internet. 😉
Sunday was my grandma’s 94th birthday! So cool, man. We had a brunch to celebrate. I’m sure she’s doing so well because she keeps busy and stays active (she still works out with a personal trainer and was really proud that her delts are growing. YEAH, grandma!) She also swears it’s the red wine 😉 She has at least one glass of red wine a day. (Obviously I had to take advice from grandma and had a glass of red wine with dinner last night.)
Boyfriend and I tired ourselves out the rest of the day getting some chores done, meal prepping, working out, walking the dog, and finally relaxed to watch Grand Budapest Hotel (which we won last weekend at an Oscars party and neither of us had seen before.)
It was such a lovely weekend! Though isn’t it a shame that the weekends when you actually do fun things go by the fastest? Bummer.
What’s in store for y’all this week???
