Spicy Sesame Yuzu Brussels Sprouts

IT’S TIME TO BARBECUE AGAIN!!!

I am so thrilled. I actually used my barbecue a surprising amount during the fall and winter, but it just is NOT the same as it is during the spring and summer! Last summer, I don’t think I went more than a couple days without grilling something. Time to get back to it 😉

Ohhh and just you WAIT until corn is in season again! (*GASP*)

I’m kicking off barbecue season with a fantastic spicy sesame yuzu Brussels sprouts recipe that I accidentally created last week when I was in a “whisk together the first few things I feel like pulling out of the cupboard” mood and they were actually phenomenal.

And I’m thrilled to have these spicy sesame yuzu Brussels sprouts because I never make Brussels sprouts with Japanese flavors. So I’m kind of excited to add a whole new dimension to one of my favorite veggies. (Plus the more I mix them up, the more often I can get boyfriend to eat Brussels sprouts 😉 )

But no worries if you don’t have a barbecue or just don’t want to barbecue! You can roast these following almost the exact same directions.

FYI – yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit, and the sauce I’m using is a new (I think) hot sauce from Trader Joe’s.

Ingredients

1. 3 C Brussels sprouts, trimmed and quartered
2. 2 T toasted sesame oil
3. 2 T yuzu hot sauce
4. 1 T coconut oil, melted
5. 1 clove garlic, finely minced
6. 1/2 t salt
7. tiny pinch crushed red pepper*

Instructions

1. Preheat grill on lowest heat.
2. Toss all ingredients together in a large bowl. Spread across a vegetable grill tray or just a doubled up sheet of tin foil.
3. Grill for about 20-25 minutes, until soft, stirring occasionally.

Notes

1. * I’m not going for heat here, but I love the flavor it adds. The yuzu sauce is fairly mild so if you like heat, feel free to add extra crushed red pepper to taste!
2. To roast: follow the same instructions but roast at 400 degrees for about 25-35 minutes.
