My lovely friends! How is the start of your week going?
I feel like I could use a weekend to recover from my weekend. And not in a fun way. In a “got almost nothing done, did not relax, felt very high-strung and MEH the whole time” kind of way. Minus a few fun highlights to share, of course 😉
But last weekend I had such a fun little wine tasting trip that I meant to share, so today I’m doing a whole two-week recap to catch y’all up since my last one!
Our week after camping was mostly uneventful. I was uber focused on poor Nedders who apparently hurt his little puppy paws on our camping trip! I felt so bad. He was licking his paws an awful lot and was SO TIRED at the end of our camping trip. But he still acted just like himself, so I figured he was exhausted.
Then Tuesday our friends came to take him to the dog park to play (we pay a friend’s little sister to wear him out a couple times a week while she’s on summer break and it is AWESOME.) He did NOT handle it well, got all riled up and grumpy and refused to get out of the car when they tried to bring him home. And by the time I got home Tuesday night, he was hobbling around like he’d been doing little puppy squats for days.
So we made him take it easy, gave him extra love and attention, slathered his puppy paws with ointment and tried wrapping them up in socks to keep him from licking it all off – it didn’t work too long, but I still think it helped. Did a lot of family lounging that week. 🙂
And that Friday, Preston’s parents finally made it to town. They are moving out here from Florida, and they had spent almost three whole weeks driving out. So we drove up to P’s brother’s house where they were staying at first to have a welcome dinner!
I already shared this super yummy dessert his mom made on Insta. Berries soaked in balsamic vinegar over ice cream. YUM.
Plus I finally tried these little cedar wraps on the grill for some salmon. They are so fun! I’ll probably do a full post on them soon.
On Sunday, some friends of mine from LA came up to visit and wine taste in the bay area/Napa area. Preston and I drove to meet them at The Barlow in Sebastopol. I had never been there before or even heard of it. Such a SHAME because it’s really so close to us! It’s a huge apple packing plant that has been converted into this huge walkable center filled with tasting rooms, restaurants, cafes, a market, and a couple breweries.
We hit up a tasting room and a distillery for a little spirits tasting 🙂
So much fun.
Then we headed up to Santa Rosa for a tasting with a contact my friends have up here. It was a great little trip. Boyfriend and I made it home with plenty of time to chill the rest of Sunday and for me to make a dessert I haven’t made in years that I got a sudden craving for – Oreo balls! Have you made them?? They were like super popular…. maybe 7 years ago hahaha. But still so good. (I MAY have just bought lemon Oreos to make another batch with…. 😉 )
Another not-at-all-noteworthy workweek last week passed by. I spent my evenings filming clips of our dinners so I can make a video of a week of healthy weeknight meals! I was planning to do five meals, but skipped Friday because I wound up going to the fair instead!
I have so much fun at the state fair. Though I feel like I didn’t get enough time this year!! I need another trip. Or an extra long trip next year. (Remind me next summer, mmkay??)
Boyfriend and I went after I got off work on Friday and then my friend Laurie came into town and headed straight to meet us there! So fun. Preston wasn’t feeling great so he took off and Laurie and I had a romantic little fair night 🙂 Pet some sturgeon, had puh-lenty of wine and a fantastic wine slushie.
We headed for the ferris wheel to make sure we’d get a ride before the fair shut down and the fireworks started while we were paused at the top of the ferris wheel. Magical little moment. 😀
Then we headed to go grab some late-night (and by late-night I mean 10 pm 😉 ) tacos. Unfortunately the spot we picked was a little too cool for us and we wound up waiting outside for-EV-er. But split an amazing margarita, got a monstrous helping of chips and salsa for our super long wait (they aren’t normally free at this restaurant), and ran into a friend from high school who we wound up eating with.
Saturday and Sunday were both pretty lazy. Saturday was one of those days when I regretted ever leaving the house… we went out to lunch and a movie and everything went wrong. I think I probably got in six near-accidents on the road and had about forty-five infuriating moments with idiot drivers. They were all out something MAD on Saturday. The restaurant we picked had the wrong hours on their website and were closed when we arrived, the movie we saw was MEH (Valerian – it was okay but not great and felt long. I don’t think I should ever wish for a movie to end faster…) I needed a nap when I got home. Which was not ideal because I can’t nap. I’m physically incapable.
Sunday was calmer. I painted a bit, had a nice visit from my sister and nieceling to swim in the pool for awhile, and grilled up an easy summer comfort meal. Chili cheese fries and corn make me happy 🙂
And some puppy cuddles. ❤️
