Happy WEDNESDAY, friends!!!
I’ve never been happier for it to be hump day. But I was super lucky and had Monday off, so it was four-day weekend heaven for me. It feels like it’s been forever and a day since I’ve done any kind of recap or From the Weekend post, and I thought what better occasion than a long summer weekend with plenty of festivities and pictures to share!
My office lets out early a lot of Fridays but sadly this was not one. Obviously with a long weekend, I was even antsier to get out the door and start the fun 😉 but I was really amused that there were so few cars left in the parking lot and this is how I found my car… kinda fitting for 4th of July weekend!
I was planning to be a way more useful person and go workout after work on Friday, but instead I had a nice long catch-up phone call with a friend and then Preston and I met up with friends at one of our favorite local breweries. The only pictures I snapped were of this baby who crawled in from outside and sat herself down to stare at this table 😀 (don’t worry, her mom was just out of the shot to the left)…
… and this one of Preston being the coolest.
Saturday I went on my FIRST EVER float down the American River!! Kind of unacceptable for a river-loving local Sacramentan. But I finally got around to it. It was SOOOOO much fun. Just the most peaceful and relaxing way to spend a few hours.
After floating, we wandered around old town Fair Oaks for a little while and had an AMAZING lunch after spending all of four minutes on Yelp 😉 Definitely will be remaking a couple of these recipes soon! P and I already remade that caprese salad (with PESTO in it, yum!). Twice.
When we got home, Preston power napped for a good four hours hahaha. I tried to get in a workout, but after all that food and sun it felt pretty horrible. I’m happy I did my best though. 🙂
Sunday morning we ran some errands.
Then we decided to put together the randomest brunch ever. We were craving that yummy caprese salad and had a ton of hard boiled eggs to use up. So naturally brunch became caprese salad, deviled eggs, chips and salsa + guac, and I made a DELISH coffee martini that I will for SURE blog.
We did some serious cleaning and got the apartment into shape, and then spent most of the day lounging. Plus we met up with my sister and fam for a little splash park trip.
Monday, boyfriend had to work, so Nedders and I had a nice morning run and I did some serious strength training to make up for all the weekend festivities. I spent the whole day working on some blog recipes and videos, doing a little more cleaning, and watching crappy TV 😉
Some friends came over for dinner, and I’m really annoyed that I didn’t take pictures! We had a serious feast. Burgers, hot dogs, homemade potato salad, homemade strawberry rhubarb pie (with fresh vanilla whipped cream), and some of my red white and blue boozy gummy bears! And zero photos. Boo.
Tuesday was a nice slow relaxing morning! A nice brekkie, some chill time in bed 😉
Then we headed out to go bottle our own wine with my grandma and cousins, which was a BLAST. I’ve always wanted to go, so when my grandma invited me to her favorite winery for one of their many bottling events, I was down.
We tasted wines, picked our favorites, and got to bottling! We filled bottles, added corks (FUN!), labels, and then little foil lids.
Plus we made friends with lots of lovely people, had pizza and barrel tastings.
Preston and I relaxed and watched The Force Awakens (because he didn’t realize I bought it when it came out and was so excited to notice it on our shelf this weekend hahah!) when we got home before we rode our bikes down to Old Sacramento with our camp chairs on our backs for a fireworks show!
What did you do this weekend???
I am SO grateful for a three-day week! Nothing like a super long relaxing weekend to gear up for a super short week, huh? 😀
