I’m in love with this recipe from Anne Thornton for cardamom spiced tea. I like to keep a little pitcher of this in the fridge so I can microwave a mug anytime I like.
Then I let a mug of this get cold the other day, and decided that instead of heating it for some warmth — I’d spike it! Warmed me up.
This spiked tea cocktail is actually pretty good warm or cold. Your choice.
Recipe:
adapted from Anne Thornton
serves 4
3 C unsweetened vanilla almond milk
3/4 t ground cardamom
1/2 t ground nutmeg (I highly recommend buying whole nutmeg and grating it fresh!)
4 black tea bags
1 T vanilla extract
1/3 C Frangelico (hazelnut-flavored liqueur)
Place first four ingredients into a saucepan over medium heat for about ten minutes, until well heated. I like to squish the tea bags with tongs several times while it’s steeping to make sure the tea is strong.
Remove tea from heat and take tea bags out. Mix in vanilla extract and Frangelico. Top with some frothed almond milk and extra freshly grated nutmeg.
Note: you can experiment with your favorite liqueur. This is also pretty good with amaretto, but I thought the Frangelico was best. But do not use vanilla flavored vodka – I tried that too and it was nasty!
