Tipsy Blackberry Sage Lemonade

It’s about to be summer.  And it already feels like it.  Sacramento summer.  Meaning I need no end of cooling refreshing beverages to detract from the summer heat, and I’m getting a head start on preparing those!

Fortunately, I love making such delicious drinks!  I especially love this one because, aside from the wonderful flavor combo I love of fruit + herb, it seamlessly transitions from refreshing mid-day lemonade to a spiked treat for those hot afternoon happy hours.
serves 6
1 package fresh sage
1/4 C sugar
1/2 C water
1 4 oz package blackberries
1 1/2 C freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 C sparkling water
3/4 C limoncello (optional – or leave out and add as you want to)

Sage simple syrup?  YES.

Place most of the sage leaves (save a few for garnish) torn up into a small saucepan.  Add sugar and water and bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves.  Allow to cool.

Meanwhile, squeeze lemon juice into a pitcher, muddle the blackberries in it, and add sparkling water, limoncello and reserved sage leaves.  Add the sage sugar syrup when it’s cool, stir to combine, and enjoy!
