Slow-Cooked Cinnamon Applesauce

It’s my first Apple Week recipe!  I am starting the week with my new favorite recipe.

Now maybe it’s my awesome Apple Hill apples.  But this is the sweetest most delicious and satisfying applesauce I’ve ever tasted, and I had no idea a simple dish like applesauce could be so incredibly wonderful.  Plus, it took about 5 total minutes of hands-on effort to make.

I wanted to make fresh applesauce, which I’ve never made before.  I looked up a handful of recipes and decided to go an incredibly basic no-frills route.  Chop apples.  Add to slow cooker with a little juice and a couple cinnamon sticks.  Set slow cooker.  Blend.

After I took my first bite, I actually said out loud “Holy crap, why is this so good?!”  That’s how yummy.  Really.  Not kidding here, people.

So here goes a recipe that you soooooo should try.  If you have not had homemade applesauce (like me until yesterday!), make this.  Immediately.  Go to the store or farmer’s market right now.

serves 6
6 medium apples of choice (I used a mix of Pink Lady and Fuji)
1 C apple juice or cider (the pure stuff – no sugar added!)
2 cinnamon sticks

Chop apples.  Put all ingredients in slow cooker.  Set on low and cook for about 3 hours, stirring once in the middle of cooking.  Let cook until apples are soft.  Then blend to your desired consistency.

Take a bite and let me know what your first reaction to this super-simple homemade applesauce is.  🙂
