Maple & Cinnamon Spiced Kale Juice

Hello, lovely readers!  I am sooo sorry if you’re having troubles viewing my blog today and yesterday – I am trying so hard to fix the problem, but I simply don’t know how.  I am probably one of the lowest-tech bloggers ever.  If anybody out there might know how to make that stupid ‘Authentication Required’ box go away, I will try anything!  I tried deleting all the things I had set up down the side of my blog, so that’s going to be pretty bare-bones until the problem is resolved.  Sorry!

Let’s move on to happy things.  I am making fast progress!  I actually felt like plugging in a kitchen appliance!  Still not prepared for one with blades, but I’m getting there . . .

Plus I ditched the stitches yesterday and the splint today!  But not my old black Halloween nail polish – I’m not getting nail polish remover anywhere near my cut, so that’s stickin’ around for awhile.

Another happy thing is juice.  I try pretty hard to listen to what my body tells me it needs.  Of course, sometimes I swear it’s telling me it wants goodies like coconut caramel dip drizzled on apple cake.  I’m probably not listening well at those moments.

But the last several days I have been absolutely craving vegetable juices.  I think it’s what my body wants to heal my finger.  I’m on antibiotics (except I took my last one this morning, woo hoo!) that make me crazy thirsty, and was on painkillers that made me nauseous.  I stopped taking the painkillers almost immediately – I don’t care how much my finger hurt, I am so not made to digest narcotics.  No way.  Off the narcotics, my body’s been ravenous and thirsty!  So green juice seems like a good way to get some healing power going!

When I had my gigantic pitcher of fresh mulled apple cider in my fridge, I poured a big glug of it into a green juice, and it was awesome.  So that’s what I’ve decided to make!  If you have homemade or store-bought spiced cider, you can leave out the apples and spices, and just pour cider into your juiced veggies.

serves 1
1/2 bunch organic kale
2 medium carrots
2 small apples
1 small orange
1/2 inch piece fresh ginger
1 T pure maple syrup
1/2 t cinnamon
optional: tiny pinches of ground cardamom, ginger, or cloves

Juice the first 5 ingredients.  Then stir in the last few ingredients.

Now you’ve got a thirst-quenching, nutrient-packed delicious drink to start your day right!  And I think it’s going to help cure our ailments too!

Yay for healing fingers! I’m glad you’re almost healed =) I’ve been extra-extra-careful around my hand-blender ever since! (To make sure it doens’t become a HAND blender!!)
This sounds yum! Though I’m always amused when I read a recipe using “apple cider” – in the UK, that would be alcoholic! Though spiced alcoholic-cider might be rather nice too!… though perhaps not in veggie juice!

Thanks! I am verrrry glad to hear you’re being careful with your blender now. I’d really like some benefit to come from my mishap. I didn’t realize that about apple cider! I’ve had apple cider that’s alcoholic, but just didn’t think about the different use of terms! Wonder how alcoholic cider would be in this recipe . . . hmmmmm
