Beet & Berries Juice - Flora Foodie

Beet & Berries Juice

I mentioned in my weekend recap that I was craving beets last weekend.

Of course, I had to look up what nutrients are in beets – what health benefit do they have that I am lacking to give me such a craving?  Well, that smart body of mine must have known that beets help detox your liver!

Ha!  Good call during a less-than-healthy weekend and a bachelorette night that may or may not have included slurping out of a giant punch bowl of who-knows-what with a 2-foot straw.

My craving subsided after a big beautiful beet salad and a gigantic beet juice.  But as I was slurping down my giant beet juice on Sunday, I decided that it had been way too long since I’ve made my own.

Now that I know the fantastic benefit of these beautiful bright veggies, I’m going to make sure to keep incorporating them into my diet.  Perfect for a weekend like I just had, but liver detox is always a good idea.

Let’s start with this super simple and delicious juice.

I chose the other ingredients at the store.  I went to the grocery store shortly after my return home on Sunday and everything in the produce department screamed out at me.  But I could smell the strawberries from an aisle away, so I bee-lined it that way and picked up a box.  Blueberries too.  My body needed nutrition in general 🙂

Good thing I walked to the store and remembered I’d have to carry my haul back or my fridge would be overloaded.

But after a couple glasses of this juice, I’m going to need a quick return to the store!

serves 1*
1 beet root (red or golden are both great)
1 C strawberries
1 C blueberries
2 carrots, peeled
1 small apple
optional: turmeric (wished I’d had some turmeric root since I clearly needed some detox.  I sprinkled some ground turmeric into my juice, but if you have access to the root that is a miracle food!)

Juice all the goodies!  Drink up.

* This recipe serves 1, but I really wished I’d made more.  A bunch of beets, pint of blueberries, and a pint of strawberries would get you a few nice servings of juice!

Been awhile since I’ve had a gratuitous cat picture:
