Hazelnut Sipping Chocolate

When you were little, did you ever make a batch of hot cocoa that was pretty much equal parts cocoa mix to water/milk?  (Hope I’m not the only one…)

Well, here’s the adult version.  To make it sound like a classy adult-appropriate drink, we can call it “Sipping Chocolate” a la Trader Joe’s.

I saw this pretty tin of chocolate at TJ’s last week, and just had to read the ingredients to see if by chance it’s vegan.  It is.  🙂  Joy.

So when I woke up a little PMS-y yesterday, and since I needed a day without coffee (because one cup a day has become “I will die without a cup first thing in the morning and then I probably need more later on”), I thought I’d start the day with a little cup of chocolate alongside my avocado toast.

I followed the instructions for a cup of sipping chocolate with just the chocolate mix and soy milk.  I added some hazelnut extract because, well, that just sounded yummy.  And it is!

Alright, it turns out this was kind of uber chocolately first thing in the morning, so I packed my tiny cup of sipping chocolate and had it chilled later after my lunch.  Also delicious.

When I got home from work, I did a little yoga.  Partly as a workout, and partly because I hurt my back during my last workout (by naturally swaying my arms as I jogged…how lame!  Preston made sure to show me stretches to do before workouts now, since “this kind of thing is going to start happening to you a lot more now that you’re old.”  Hmph.)

20 minutes in, I decided that lying on a heating pad was close enough to yoga.  After my strenuous workout, I wanted more of this yummy chocolate (naturally), so I made the boozy version.  Instead of hazelnut extract, how bout some Frangelico?!

Yes, please 🙂

non-boozy version:
serves 1
1/2 C light vanilla soy milk
3 T TJ’s Sipping Chocolate
1/2 t hazelnut extract

Heat soy milk (I just microwaved it for 1 minute), then whisk in chocolate and extract.  Drink!

boozy version:
serves 1
1/2 C light vanilla soy milk
3 T TJ’s Sipping Chocolate
1 oz Frangelico (or any other hazelnut liqueur)

Heat soy milk, whisk in chocolate and Frangelico.
