Golden Cantaloupe & Persimmon Juice

Happy Friday, friends!  I am so excited for a weekend.  I just want to relax a little, read, clean my disastrous apartment, check some Christmas to-dos off my list, and bake bake bake.  If my current mood that has me craving baked goods like mad lasts through tomorrow, there will be some goodies on the blog next week 🙂

Fortunately, earlier this week I had much healthier cravings for fruit.  I had a really fun juice planned with a super special secret ingredient – but I let it go bad!  So sad 🙁  I’ll buy more, recipe to come…

I still wanted my juice, so I pulled a bunch of fruit out of my fridge and realized that everything on my counter except for some limes was orange.  Goodbye, limes.  Back in the fridge you go!

I worried that a juice that took no more planning than “hey, these things are all the same color!” might not turn out so great, but it’s absolutely fantastic.

Cantaloupe is definitely the overwhelming flavor here, which I certainly don’t mind since it’s probably my all-time favorite fruit.  you could probably use half a melon instead of a whole one and still have a great juice if you want the other flavors to shine more.

serves 4
1 whole cantaloupe, peeled and sliced
4 persimmons
2-inch piece of turmeric root, peeled
2 grapefruits, peeled

Juice everything all together!  The cantaloupe makes a LOT of foam – if you like that, then dig in right away!  I prefer a little less foam, but it separates to the top pretty quickly, and you’re left with a surprisingly clear juice at the bottom that is so refreshing and hydrating and tastes like sweet bright cantaloupe, with a bit of that grapefruit hint at the end.

So good!

Did you juice or blend this? Isn't cantaloupe out of season? Looks yummy

I juiced it! I'm sure blending would work well, too, if you have a high-powered blender. I thought cantaloupe was out of season too, but my grocery store had a lot that smelled sweet, so that's all I based it on. If they hadn't smelled much, I would have skipped them. That's how I judge… 🙂
