Homemade Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder

vegan chocolate protein powder

Happy Friday!!! Not surprisingly at all, I’m WAY excited that it’s almost the weekend ๐Ÿ™‚ High Five for Friday post going up this afternoon!

But to kick off this Friday right, I’ve got a MAD simple recipe for homemade vegan protein powder. I am trying to back away from all the over-processed soy products so I wanted to find a protein powder that is nutritious, high in protein, and minimally processed. I’m a pretty big fan of the Trader Joe’s hemp protein line, but after trying a couple samples of pea protein powders (that are a bit pricey…), I was super impressed and thought I’d try to get my own together!

Turns out it’s a piece of cake and REALLY cheap. This recipe makes 10 servings and cost me about (hard to calculate, but I did an educated guess) $3. Considering most high-quality protein powders will run about $3 per serving, I’m seriously proud of myself! One tenth of the price!

I started with white bean flour and green pea flour because they’re affordable, pretty high in protein (and fiber), easy enough to cover up flavor-wise, and they both have just one ingredient on the list. But I found that you can use any number of high protein powders, like brown rice flour, any kind of bean flour, of course added ground hemp seeds, and more! I plan to keep experimenting, but I wanted to post now because I’m so happy to discover how easy it is to make your own healthier protein powders and I hope you’ll do your own experiments!

So here’s my first recipe:

homemade vegan chocolate protein powder

yields 10 (BIG) servings
1 C white bean flour
1/2 C green pea flour
3/4 C raw cacao powder*
10 packets stevia in the raw
1 T vanilla powder

*I used a high quality raw cacao for this, but flavor-wise I am plotting a little special dark for the next time around….

Whisk everything together and store it in an air tight container!
