Over the weekend, I had the BEST cocktail. I actually had no idea what I was ordering or what was in it, but still took on the challenge of remaking it 😉
I went out to Broderick’s Roadhouse with my family on Friday to try their vegan chef challenge menu. I actually ordered off their regular (vegan!) menu and had some of the best tofu EVER. It was really close to my apartment, had fantastic food, a great vibe, a huge selection of beer on tap, and a handful of vegan grub on their regular menu! (Only gripe was they were out of their vegan ice cream sandwich!!!) I was pretty impressed, and Preston and I decided we will absolutely start including that in our restaurant lineup.
I was stuck in a corner and couldn’t read the beer selections from my seat, so my brother-in-law took a picture of the board and passed it around the table. They had a big all-caps seasonal selection: Vanilla Spiced Pear. Assuming it was a cider that I obviously had to try, I ordered that.
But a cocktail found its way in front of me. Oh, well! No complaints from me! It was a fantastic cocktail. Not very sweet at all, a hint of pear, a noticeable cinnamon-and-nutmeg flavor, and a nice kick.
I still have no idea what was actually in it, but I tried a little remake. This drink has the same flavors as that fantastic drink from Broderick’s, but it’s still pretty different. You might see me try again, but this drink was too good not to share.
vanilla spiced pear cocktail
1 medium pear (I’m sure any kind will do, but I used an Asian pear)
1 shot maple bourbon
1/2 t ground cinnamon
1/4 t ground nutmeg
1/2 t vanilla extract
optional: sparkling water
Peel the pear. Add everything (except sparkling water) to a blender, and blend away! You can pour it directly into a glass or squish it through a strainer for a thinner consistency. I strained half of it, and that was perfect! It’s a pretty strong small drink this way, a little sparkling water will make it last a little longer but only mellows it out a little. Your call.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and some extra ground cinnamon and nutmeg. And lots of ice!
