Helloooooo, loves! Happy happy Friday ๐
I have a fantastical post for you today, BUT I’m kind of disappointed because I intended to get this up before CHRISTMAS. Oops.
I actually made these goodies for Christmas gifts this year and so wanted to share for a last-minute gift idea, buuuuut that didn’t work out. But you don’t need the holidays to make these goodies, they’re great all year round, whether as a gift or just for yourself ๐
Blackberry infused vodka (made at home) with thyme simple syrup (made at home) in pretty little bottles with a pretty little bottle or two of sparkling water, lemons and limes, and a lovely little handwritten recipe? Too cool.
I was super tempted to make a big variety of flavored vodkas and simple syrups, but when it came down to it, I wanted to give everyone something that is interesting enough to be unusual but more of a sure bet than, say, my lemongrass vodka with jalapeno simple syrup would be ๐
Blackberry thyme is pretty solid because it’s light, refreshing, a little fruity, and the thyme adds just a subtly unusual flavor but nothing too weird. I’m a big fan of the fruit-and-herb combo.
Other low-risk combos include: strawberry + rosemary or basil, raspberry + vanilla, and blueberry + lemon. (I’m a fan of berries for this because they’re easy to get flavor out of quickly without diluting the vodka much.) I went with blackberries because they’re in season and perfect right now!
- 3 C blackberries
- 6 C vodka
- 1/2 bunch fresh thyme sprigs
- 1 1/2 C sugar
- 3 C water
- Muddle blackberries at the bottom of some kind of glass jar or tupperware. Add vodka. Let steep for about 72 hours. Strain out the blackberries. That’s ALL!
- Put all ingredients in a saucepan and heat over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Turn off the heat, cover, and let sit until completely cooled. Add a couple fresh thyme sprigs to whatever jar you store the syrup in!
